Disability Benefits Support
Inability to work and the resultant loss of income can be devastating for a chronically ill individual. It can be a vicious cycle — the illness prevents one from earning an income, and the resulting stress usually exacerbates the illness.
Social Services Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are federally-funded benefit programs that offer help. Sadly, the process required to understand, apply, and have a successful outcome is daunting. We provide support to patients and their families so that they may more easily receive the needed benefits from these programs.
Our Benefits Support volunteers try to make people aware of the obstacles and pitfalls involved in the process, including how to determine if and when an attorney may be necessary, how to prepare appeals, interviews, and medical documentation, and how to interpret rules for working while receiving benefits. We encourage you to read our Disability Assistance section in order to provide us with the most useful information when requesting this service.
If, after reading this material, you would like to be contacted by a Benefits Support volunteer, please complete the services request form below.
